charlie

Eater of plastic, wrecker of carpets, killer of pigeons and owner of enormous whiskers; I miss you!
My cat Charlie died last summer.  I had to have him put to sleep when he became very sick.  Strange how our furry companions weave their own very special place in our hearts.

I'm no poet, so I'll borrow the words of another cat lover, T S Eliot:

The yellow fog that rubs its back upon the window-panes,
The yellow smoke that rubs its muzzle on the window-panes
Licked its tongue into the corners of the evening,
Lingered upon the pools that stand in drains,
Let fall upon its back the soot that falls from chimneys,
Slipped by the terrace, made a sudden leap,
And seeing that it was a soft October night,
Curled once about the house, and fell asleep.

I'm so sorry about Charlie. He reminds me of my mom's cat except she has short hair -- but the coloring is just about the same. Sniff.

Oh lord; is there anything more difficult than losing a beloved pet? My own dear Cuter Lee died in my arms on the way to the vet. To the end a fighter, she bit me because she knew where she was going.

Oh, Charlie was absolutely beautiful! What a gorgeous face. I feel your pain. We too lost our sweet Maine Coon, Sam, in September. He was only 9 years of age which to me whose cats usually live well into the old age of 15 or more was quite the shock.

Thank you all for your lovely comments - it's months now since I had to have him put to sleep, but there's still a Charlie-shaped space on my lap in the evenings.

Brian - oh, that's sad, just before Christmas.
Betty - I love tuxedo cats. Long or short-haired.
tut-tut - :(
Lynne - Maine Coons are so beautiful and 9 is too young. (Charlie was 7.)
