theme thursday (on saturday) - gourds

I've taken liberties and posted a couple of photos of pumpkins here, too

These beautiful gourds were on display in Chelsea Market, NYC in October last year

This colourful decoration was seen on the steps of an old brownstone in Brooklyn

and this big pumpkin was sitting all alone atop a wall in the Cotswolds, England.

I was surprised at the relative lack of pumpkins around Halloween-time in England. In the states they're EVERYWHERE, huge piles of them in all the supermarkets. I guess the Halloween tradition just isn't as strong here -- and in the states we do love our gourds.

Hey, pumpkins are gourds too! We had a deficit here in New Jersey this year and I've not seen any around for sale. Hurricane Irene pretty much took care of all the squashy-gourd-like crops. Very sad. Love the pumpkin photo with "The Knoll". Is that someone's estate?

I love the connection, pumpkin-wise I mean, between Brooklyn and Cotswolds. They don't look so different in these photos!
